After 18 years working for the Landes and Gers departmental councils on agricultural and environmental issues, Nicolas Ilbert joined Alain Rousset's cabinet at the Aquitaine Region in 2013. He was technical adviser to the President on agricultural, forestry, water, sea and mountain issues. In 2022, he joined the Adour-Garonne water agency as territorial director of the Atlantic-Dordogne delegation. This delegation manages water issues in the Charente and Dordogne river catchment areas, as well as downstream on the Garonne and coastal issues in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
